Carford triumphs with two Industry Awards

 26 Apr 2004

Carford Group walked away with two prestigious titles at this year's catering industry CEDA Grand Prix Awards - including the Overall Winner accolade.

The company won the Restaurant Sector Award for its design and installation of the kitchen at Conran's Plateau restaurant in Canary Wharf.

CEDA described the kitchen created by Carford as "nothing short of breathtaking" and "a masterclass in design" - helped by its Canary Wharf location but mainly to the "sheer theatre of the kitchen" viewed through large glass windows - and "a calm, controlled environment".

The design brief was to create a new restaurant area with a kitchen in the middle, capable of servicing two distinctly different environments: fine dining and a bar and grill.  The kitchen was to be open to the restaurants via both windows and doors so it had to be functional and practical but also attractive to the eye.

Situated on the 4th floor, above a swimming pool, all services including waste had to be run via a ceiling void and this involved the use of a specialised pumping system.

Carford was selected on the basis of the other projects that it had undertaken for Conran Restaurants, i.e. Zinc, Glasgow and the Royal Exchange, London.

The Grand Prix Awards, run each year by the Catering Equipment Distributors' Association, recognises the best catering equipment installation undertaken during the preceding year.

Carford was judged on how it matched CEDA's best code of practice, performed to Conran's brief, timescales, project management, client training, aftersales support and client satisfaction.

Directors Nick Oryino and Richard Weller were presented with cheques for £2,000 to spend with awards sponsor Foster Refrigeration.

Carford was also shortlisted for the quality of its service contract with 115 nursing homes for Anchor Trust.
