Carford fits Community Kitchen

 1 Sep 2004
Carford Group has installed a new kitchen in a cafe at the Hampshire-based Lantern Community for adults with learning difficulties.

The 10 year-old Busy Bee cafe at Ringwood sells hot snacks and teas. Run by manager Claire Seymour, it is staffed with a combination of community residents, staff and voluntary co-workers.

It has been completely refurbished and is open to other community residents and the general public.

Carford supplied and installed a chilled display unit, dishwasher, fridges and freezers, grills, Panini machine, ovens and stainless steel tables and shelves.

The Lantern Community is a part of the Sheiling Trust and offers adults with learning difficulties a wide variety of adult education, life-skills, therapies, training and meaningful work opportunities suited to each individual's needs and interest.

The Lantern's work facilities also include a shop, a bakery which supplies bread to over 250 people, a weavery, pottery, woodwork shop, vegetable market, woodland management, herb and vegetable gardens. The kitchens in the various households also give important training opportunities.

Community spokesperson Immanuel Verhoeven said: "The cafe provides tremendous life-skills training and a real job for some of our residents - and with the refurbishment is becoming increasingly popular with local residents."
