African Handicapped Children Benefit From Carford`s Used Mobile Phones

 4 Jul 2006

Carford has helped an African charity to benefit handicapped children - by sending it 50 used mobile phones to sell for funds.

Friends of the Handicapped International (FHI), a small relief and development agency in Ghana, searches rural villages to find handicapped, deaf and blind kids, helps pay for their schooling costs and arranges for their education in special schools around the country.

Because of the cultural attitude towards handicapped in Africa, many of these would otherwise receive no education and have no real start in life.

Ghana FHI currently has about 500 beneficiaries in nursery, primary, junior and senior secondary schools who depend in part on FHI for school fees, educational materials, bedding and clothes.

Carford MD Nick Oryino said: "By providing education, training and personal development FHI gives these children a chance to take their place in society with dignity. This is a great charity to support."

Used mobile phones are in great demand in developing countries, many of which are skipping the development of traditional landline systems and moving straight into mobile technology.

FHI supporters in the UK are keen to send more phones to Ghana to continue their support, if you are interested in helping please contact Phil Dowding on (01202) 697201.
