Carford Group has installed a new kitchen at Canford School in Dorset during a major refurbishment.
Carford fitted cooking equipment, walk-in coldrooms, freezer, tables, ventilation system and a dishwasher for the kitchen which serves 1600 boarding pupils and staff every day during term time.
And during holiday breaks it provides catering for weddings (Canford School has a civil marriage licence), events and commercial conferences.
Contract caterer Sodexho handles all catering at the school; general services manager Richard Martin said: "Carford has provided equipment servicing and emergency cover at the school for many years and we enjoy the partnership. The installation of the new kitchen went very smoothly."
Canford Manor traces its origins to Saxon times and grew to considerable local prominence in the early Middle Ages. A Norman church and the 14th century John o'Gaunt's Kitchen still survive.
In 1846 Sir John Guest, of Guest Keen & Nettlefold, the iron and steel magnate, bought Canford and employed Charles Barry, whose Palace of Westminster was still being built, to enlarge the house. Guest was so extravagant that he became known as 'paying Guest'. His son Ivor, who in 1880 was made Lord Wimborne, welcomed many visitors, including the Prince of Wales (Edward VII), Lady Wimborne's nephew Winston Churchill, and the poet Rupert Brooke. The house became Canford School in 1922 |
