Budding Chefs Benefit from Carford Sponsorship
Would-be young chefs are benefiting from Carford Group's sponsorship of this year's Yes Chef! competition for school pupils in Dorset. Nearly 40 students put their culinary skills to the test in the first heats of the newly-named 'Carford Yes Chef!' competition. The event is organised by the Enterprise and Skills Company and hosted by Bournemouth & Poole College, with produce supplied by Coastline. It aims to unearth and inspire young would-be chefs and prospective Hospitality & Catering employees.

Heats staged at Bournemouth & Poole College whittled the field down to 20 students who go on to the semi finals at the Wessex, Carrington, Royal Bath, Harbour Heights and Sandbanks hotels. There the students will be mentored by hotel chefs as they find one finalist from each kitchen.
Finally, five finalists will meet at the Haven Hotel in April. At the first heats, the 20 semi-finalists were selected by Bournemouth & Poole College's Tony Taylor (Deputy Director of the Service Industry), Tony Groves and David Boland (Senior Lecturers of Hospitality & Catering).
Students were judged on the taste of the dish (the seasoning, the blend and harmony of the ingredients), working methods and the temperature of the dish and accompanying vegetables.
Carford's managing director, Nick Oryino, who presented all participants with certificates, said: "Everyone in this competition wins - students gain a valuable experience; the college hosts prospective students; hotels link with schools in the community; and the Hospitality & Catering industry gets an injection of fresh talent."
