Carford Installs Cooking Range For Visually Impaired Centre

 4 Dec 2000

The Bournemouth Society for the Visually Impaired (BSVI) is now even better equipped to help its members beat the risks associated with cooking, after Carford Catering Equipment fitted its new kitchen.

Now visually-impaired people can dine and socialise twice a week at the centre in Moordown, in addition to attending its daily activities such as drama, computer courses, quizzes and cookery classes on the new equipment installed by Carford.

The centre has a sight and hearing shop which is open four mornings a week to offer specialised goods for sale or loan, plus advice and information about products and local services for people with a visual or hearing impairment.

Centre director Angela Ross said: "Many visually-impaired people put themselves at risk every day, preparing and cooking food - combined with the additional problems of mobility and its resulting social isolation, so we are glad to help our members even more with this new facility."

BSVI has installed a computerised braille embosser and is offering it as a service to restaurants and hotels wanting braille menus or general information produced in braille. The centre can also advise on general information about caring for people with a visual impairment. For details telephone (01202) 546644.
