Ghostly Kitchen Installation

 22 Oct 2000

Carford Catering Equipment has designed and installed a new kitchen at the recently refurbished Hourglass Restaurant at Fordingbridge with one eye out for its ghost!

Owners of the listed 14th century farm cottage, Charlotte, Daniel and Yvonne Wiggins, have been told it is home to a Victorian 'ghost' of an old lady who sits in one of the original fireplaces.

One of the builders claimed he felt a ghostly touch on his shoulder during the refurbishment this year but Carford staff said they did not sense anything spooky.

Service manager Peter Baulch said: "The restaurant is a very old building with lots of nooks and crannies, but our installers didn't come across a ghost."

The Hourglass, which had a spell as a petrol garage in the 1930s and was converted into a restaurant around 25 years ago, is now set in landscaped gardens and seats 47 diners in beautiful old oak-beamed rooms. Chef Greg Dawson majors on unpretentious traditional British cooking.

Charlotte said: "We hope to have created a restaurant and bar that combines city chic with provincial charm; a place for those who want to dress up and make a night of it and for others who simply want a casual, satisfying meal.

"Carford's team was very efficient during our refurbishment and came up with several designs for us. We chose them because they were the most professional of the companies we originally contacted."
