Carford Fits Out Bistro At Acclaimed Visitor Centre

 6 Sep 2000

Carford Catering Equipment has designed and installed equipment for a Bistro at a highly-acclaimed new £1.7 million visitor centre at Ventnor Botanic Gardens, Isle of Wight.

The centre, opened by botanist and broadcaster Dr David Bellamy, cascades down a steep hillside in three levels.

Its construction was made possible by funding from the Millennium Commission, Biffaward, Rural development Programme and Southern Water.

Carford manufactured the servery counter at its Ferndown-based fabrication division, and supplied the full kitchen and furniture for the Palm Court Bistro that serves up to 90 people.

Heritage manager Jo Treagus, who co-ordinated the project, said: "Carford's staff were very good; they efficiently re-issued plans for changes made during the development stage, they were flexible in our fitting-out schedules and produced excellent Health & Safety documentation."

The renowned gardens were opened in 1972 on the 22-acre site of a former hospital for chest diseases, where its sheltered position on the Island's Undercliff gives it an almost Mediterranean climate.
