Carford fits top London restaurant kitchen - While it stays open for business

 28 Mar 2005
Commercial catering equipment company Carford has  assisted in the design and installed a new kitchen for top London restaurant Maggiore's - while it remained open for business.

The £100,000 contract involved substantial alteration of the existing basement kitchen to  more than double its size.

Award-winning Maggiore's in Covent Garden serves modern French cuisine. It boasts two AA rosettes  and is Michelin-rated two knives and forks. It has one of the largest wine lists in the UK and was awarded Wine Spectator's 'Best of Award of Excellence' in 2004 , one of only a handfull in the UK! .

Carford's biggest challenge was to handle the refurbishment while keeping the restaurant open, which involved working out of hours and using special screens to divide the kitchen into sections, each fitted with temporary air extraction.

There was a big requirement for customised fabrication of extraction, benches, sinks and shelves, which Carford handled from its inhouse operation.  The kitchen equipment specified was the bespoke Bonnet Premier range of ovens.

The kitchen supplies the main restaurant plus a private dining restaurant upstairs.

Owner Paul Corrett describes the restaurant as a  chic country restaurant in the city and styled the dining room to resemble an Italian courtyard, with flagstone flooring and overhead  fully opening skylight surrounded by climbing branches  and in the winter roaring log fires.
