Carford Group has fitted out a former prison ship with a new dining facility during its conversion to an accommodation barge for oil workers.

Jascon 27 was bought last year by the Sea Trucks Group of companies which provides marine services to the major oil and construction companies in Nigeria.

The barge was moored at Portland, Dorset, for eight years as a prison ship housing up to 400 prisoners and 200 staff until August 2005.

During the refurbishment at Portland, Carford fitted the restaurant dining area with new counters, a beverage/snacks area and a plate wash area, working under subcontract to the project's principal interior outfitters, Southampton-based Trimline.

Jascon 27 will accommodate 500 plus oil workers and contains galley, mess room, four games rooms, four recreation rooms and a gymnasium. It is 102m long and 27m high.
