Jascon 27 - Portland
Jascon 27 will accommodate 500 plus oil workers and contains galley, mess room, four games rooms, four recreation rooms and a gymnasium. It is 102m long and 27m high.
Jascon 27 was originally named HMP WEARE and was built in Sweden as an accommodation ship, taken over by the British Government in 1982 and used to house troops during the Falklands conflict. She was then purchased by the US Government and converted to a floating prison for use in New York. In 1997 she was re purchased from the U.S and piggybacked to Portland Harbour in Dorset to serve as an overflow for HMP Verne Portland, housing 400 category C offenders.

Part of the refurbishment at Portland, included fitting out the restaurant dining area with new counters, a beverage/snacks area, a plate wash area and new 'fast food' style furniture. The Carford Group were chosen as the successful catering equipment provider, working closely with Jon Gale - Project Manager for Trimline Ltd.
Carford and Trimline worked closely together, coming up with various designs to satisfy the client. The initial agreed counter layout was dramatically changed when it became clear that the counters had to service a good many more users than had first been envisaged. Two large Foster ice cubers were installed, along with toasters, juice machines, water boilers, coffee brewers, and a large Lincat chrome griddle for theatre cooking in the main counter run. The main centre piece of the project was the 'U' shaped counter run - Counters supplied by Victor Manufacturing. The counters were all fitted with Die Pat deck feet to enable them to be bolted through the floor into the steel sub structure of the deck.
