Carford designed and installed a modern servery that complements the curves and light ash colouring of the overall centre. Also a kitchen was installed complete with Zanussi 6-burner range, combi oven, griddle, microwave, four upright fridges and dishwasher; stainless steel fabrication by Carford, including extraction, heated gantry, sink units and tabling; hygienic wall covering and safety flooring... the works. |

It has a specialist board each day and serves only healthy-living food, nothing deep-fried, up to three hot dishes each day.

Unusually, access to a public library is via the cafe, which they believe has helped boost the number of visitors to the library. Liz Taylor, community business advisor, said: "Carford has been really supportive right through the process and worked well with the main contractors Fitzpatrick." |

John Pounds Centre was a seven-year new-build project (including planning and 18 months construction) as part of a five-phase redevelopment project. It was backed by Portsmouth City Council which provided the bulk of the finance; additional grant funding was obtained from Single Regeneration Budget Round 5 and the Active England Lottery Fund.
