The case
Motcombe Grange near Shaftesbury, Dorset, is a new collection of luxury retirement apartments and maisonettes in a lovely old former preparatory school which has been tastefully extended to provide more accommodation. Its concept is one of independent living with facilities (such as snooker room, bar, library, gym, hairdressing salon and croquet lawn) and flexibility - with the security of knowing help is available if needed.
Carford was approached to design and install a kitchen that would provide catering for residents in up to 30 apartments.
David Jackson (Project Sales Manager) said "One of the issues we encountered was the location of the kitchen - right in the middle of the large country house with no exterior walls".
The solution
Our kitchen design provided for the optimum work flow and the L-shaped room allowed for nicely-seperated prep and cooking areas.
Fresh air intake had been overlooked by the builders so we negotiated with them to install a special low profile intake manufactured by ourselves to fit above the false ceiling in the corridor located between the kitchen and the outside wall.
We fitted the kitchen with primarily Zanussi equipment: 10-grid gas combi, twin-well gas fryer, 6-burner range with oven and Gas Salamander grill, LS6 dishwasher and refrigeration.
Carford's fabrication department designed and manufactured top-quality tabling throughout, plus shelving, prep area and sinks... and of course, the extraction system.
The result
This is a superb small kitchen and an example for retirement and nursing homes to follow. Motcombe Grange provides luxury assisted accommodation, and this kitchen helps its staff produce delicious food to the highest standard expected by the residents.
